🌏 From Cambodia to Myanmar: A Journey of Giving

From Cambodia to Myanmar, CPS has always believed in giving back — building homes, supporting children, and creating brighter futures from the Tabitha Foundation, Cambodian Children’s Fund, and now extending our care to Witharkhar The Nun’s Teaching Education School in Myanmar. 💛

A Journey of Giving: From Cambodia to Myanmar

At Competitive Pest Services (CPS), giving back has always been part of who we are. Over the years, our team and community have worked together to support children in need—first in Cambodia, and now extending our helping hands to Myanmar.

Building Hope with the Tabitha Foundation

Our story of giving began in Cambodia with the Tabitha Foundation, an organisation dedicated to helping the Cambodia’s poorest families achieve stability. Many of these families could not save for a home due to circumstances such as widowhood, single parenthood, or landmine injuries.

Through Tabitha Cambodia, international volunteer teams—including CPS staff—worked under the guidance of local Khmer builders to construct simple but life-changing houses. This gave families the safety, security, and dignity of a place they could finally call home.

Some of our CPS staff even travelled to Cambodia to join annual builds, spending their time, energy, and hearts to make a tangible difference. The experience of hammering nails, raising walls, and then handing the keys to grateful families was unforgettable and deeply humbling.

The Cambodian Children’s Fund and One Tech, One Child

In 2012, CPS’s founder+CEO, Gary Journeaux, also became involved with the Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF). This organisation, founded by Australian Scott Neeson, rescues children from Phnom Penh’s rubbish dumps and provides them with a safe home, education, and hope for a better future.

To support CCF, CPS launched the One Tech, One Child initiative: for every technician hired at CPS, we committed to sponsoring another child through the program.

This wasn’t just about financial sponsorship. CPS staffs became pen pals with the children, visited Cambodia to spend time with them, and watched them grow into confident young people with bright futures. Over the years, CPS has contributed more than $57,000 AUD, sponsored several children, and helped provide education, healthcare, and nourishment for some of Cambodia’s most vulnerable kids.

The work with CCF and Tabitha Foundation showed us what’s possible when businesses and communities come together with compassion and purpose.

Our New Chapter: Supporting Children in Myanmar

Today, our journey of giving continues—this time in Myanmar, at Witharkhar The Nun’s Teaching Education School.

The school’s story is as inspiring as it is humbling. Founded by Principal Nun Daw Kate Tha Ya Htay Yee, she was born from personal tragedy and transformed into a light of hope. After losing both her parents in her early twenties, which had made her suffered quite a huge loss, the Nun chose the path of monastic life. Through her grief, she discovered her life’s mission: to nurture vulnerable children with not only education, but also love, resilience, and stability.

Since opening in 1996 under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Religious Affairs, the school has welcomed more than 3,000 children, focusing especially on orphans and underprivileged and refugee kids from remote areas. Today, 115 students are guided by seven dedicated teachers, continuing a legacy of care that has lasted nearly three decades.

This year, CPS is proud to step in and support the school and its students.

    Sharing Their Stories

Each child at Witharkhar has their own story—some have faced illness, some have lost parents, and others come from rural regions where education is often out of reach. Yet, through the school, they are finding opportunities, friendships, and dreams for the future.

Just as we once shared Cambodian children’s handwritten letters, this time we will be presenting Myanmar children’s profiles and photos so you can connect with their journeys on a more personal level.

On a separate page, we will showcase these profiles, with each child’s story alongside their picture.

     Looking Ahead

From Cambodia to Myanmar, our mission has remained the same: to support children in need and provide them with the chance to grow, learn, and thrive.

We are proud of the journey so far—helping build homes through Tabitha, sponsoring education through CCF, and forming bonds with children and communities across Asia. And with our new partnership with Witharkhar The Nun’s Teaching Education School, we look forward to seeing the same kind of transformation we once saw in Cambodia.

Because at CPS, helping children is more than charity—it’s about building futures, together.
